Android app and local data
No account is required: the Pianovera account described below is optional. Included songs and exercises, MIDI playback, the touch keyboard and recognition of the notes you play are processed on your device. Settings, progress, imported or cached MIDI files and recent files are stored in the app’s private storage. 3D hand movements are prepared and stored locally, including for personal MIDI files. MIDI files, their movements and progress are not uploaded to our server.
The free version has no time limit and no ads. Optional Premium, monthly, yearly or lifetime, unlocks the whole catalogue and every feature. There is no free trial: you only pay if you choose Premium. Trials started with an earlier version keep their duration. Purchase checks and the map require Internet; verified Premium access may be cached locally for up to 24 hours, or 30 days for lifetime access.
Microphone (optional). If you choose to play on your real piano, in lessons, Note reading or songs, the app asks for permission to use the microphone. The sound is analysed live on your device to recognise the notes you play: it is not recorded, stored or sent anywhere, and the microphone only listens during that activity while the app is open on screen. You can refuse or withdraw this permission at any time in Android settings; the app stays fully usable on screen or with a MIDI keyboard.
You can remove local data in Android Settings → Apps → Pianovera → Storage → Clear data. Android may back up or restore some data according to your system settings. Removing the app or its data does not cancel a Google Play subscription.
Google Play subscriptions
Google Play handles purchases and payments through your Google Play account. Pianovera does not receive your payment card number, Google password or the email address of that account. To verify, restore and acknowledge a purchase, the app sends a purchase token over HTTPS to our service. The service checks the Google Play API and returns the status and expiry of the subscription or lifetime access. Purchase tokens and responses are processed in memory, without a purchase database on our server and without logging the request body. If you link a purchase to your Pianovera account, its token is kept with the account.
Google retains purchase and payment records according to its own policies. Manage or cancel subscriptions in Google Play. Terms, local prices and renewal details are shown before purchase.
Pianovera account (optional)
You can sign in with Google to get Premium on all your devices, Android and Windows. On Android, sign-in happens in Google’s own window; on Windows, on a pianovera.com page that shows Google’s button in your browser. Pianovera then receives your Google account identifier and verified email address from Google, never your password. For your account, our server stores this identifier, the email address, creation and last sign-in dates, the Google Play purchase tokens and Windows licence keys you link, and your sessions, stored as fingerprints (SHA-256): the session token itself stays on your device. Linked purchases are rechecked with Google Play or Lemon Squeezy to unlock Premium on your other devices.
A session unused for 6 months is erased; a linked purchase that has not unlocked Premium for 30 days is removed from the account. You can sign out or delete your account at any time in the app (Settings, Pianovera account), or request deletion by email (see below): deletion erases the account, its sessions and its links on our server. Your purchases stay valid on the device where you made them.
Public piano map and permissions
The map downloads piano listings from pianovera.com and map tiles from OpenStreetMap. These services receive your IP address and usual technical request information. If you enable approximate location, Android asks permission to centre the map and sort nearby pianos. Coordinates are not sent directly to our server; requested map tiles may nonetheless reveal the area being viewed to the tile provider. The map works without location permission.
Internet access is used for online features (optional account, purchase checks, the piano map, updates). The app does not use an advertising identifier and requests no camera or contacts permission; the microphone is described above. MIDI import uses files you select. Contribution links open the website, where a location, description and chosen display name may be submitted for moderation and publication. Avoid including private information. Contributions remain stored while used by the service; contact us to request correction or deletion. See also the OpenStreetMap privacy policy.
Website and Windows app
The pianovera.com website shows no ads, sets no cookies and uses no third-party audience measurement tool: only anonymous totals (visits, downloads and clicks per day) are computed on our server from its technical logs, and no IP address is kept in those totals. The Windows app processes music and progress locally; online features include updates, licence verification, the optional Pianovera account and the map. The account sign-in page loads the “Sign in with Google” button from Google’s servers. Windows purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy; Pianovera does not handle your payment card details.
3D hands and version updates
Hand movements are computed and cached locally. On Windows, the same live note recognition runs on the computer: microphone access depends on Windows privacy settings, and nothing is recorded or sent. Licences are activated and verified through Lemon Squeezy; the Premium subscription, monthly or yearly, requires an internet connection at least every 7 days. There is no longer a free trial or a Creator plan. Windows affiliate applications and referral attribution are managed by Lemon Squeezy. No affiliate tracking script is added to this website.
Infrastructure, retention and rights
Our server receives technical connection information: IP address, date, requested resource, browser or app information and response status. HTTP logs support security and diagnostics and are retained for approximately 15 days. Purchase-token contents are not included in these logs. Connections to Pianovera services use HTTPS encryption. Google and map providers may process data in other countries according to their respective policies.
Service operation and security rely on processing needed for those functions. Pianovera shows no ads and does not share your data for advertising. We do not maintain a central record of your songs or progress. The app is intended for users aged 13 and over.
Access, correction and deletion requests
Email stephane.cardon33@gmail.com, identifying your request and the relevant data, without sending passwords or payment card information. We will explain which data we can locate and handle your request under applicable rules. Use Android settings for device-only data and your Google account tools for Google purchases and data. You can also contact your data protection authority.
This policy is updated when processing changes. Older app versions may offer fewer features. Before version 2.0, the app offered a 7-day free trial with an end-of-trial reminder notification; both are removed from version 2.0. Up to version 1.16, the Android app offered optional Google AdMob rewarded ads, with age screening and Google’s consent choices; they are removed from version 1.17. If you still use an older version, Google’s AdMob SDK data disclosure applies to those ads.
